Cardiovascular Training
Cardiovascular (Cardio) training is sustained exercise using the major muscle groups of the body.
When you do physical activity and your pulse quickens and your breathing gets deeper, you are using your cardiovascular system.
As we all know, the heart is a muscle. If you don't exercise a muscle it becomes weak and inefficient, so if we want to live a long and healthy life we need to exercise.
Your hearts main job is to pump blood around the body, providing oxygen to the muscles and allowing us to move. The stronger and more efficient your heart is the less it has to work in order to do its job. So you wont get out of breath every time you climb those stairs!
When we exercise using the cardiovascular system, it strengthens your heart and increase's the capacity of your lungs to re-oxygenate your blood more efficiently, it also stimulates the production of fat-burning enzymes.
The real purpose of aerobic exercise (Cardio) is to stimulate the growth of the body's natural fat-burning enzymes long term so you burn more and more calories all the time, not just when you're exercising.
Increase the size of the fireplace and you can burn more logs in it. The same principle applies to the calorie burning potential of your body.
So Cardio training not only strengthens your heart and makes it healthier, it burns calories (fat) and makes your body better at burning off fat permanently.
